Start with the course format
List what a buyer receives: recorded lessons, live sessions, worksheets, feedback, community access, assessments or individual coaching. Define the access period and expected time commitment. A simple video course may work well in a dedicated course platform, while a high-touch program may need scheduling, secure messaging and a clear relationship with the coach’s professional profile.
Choose between an owned website and a hosted platform
Selling from your own website offers control over branding, content and customer journey, but you must arrange hosting, checkout, tax handling, email, analytics and support. A hosted course platform can reduce setup work but may charge subscriptions or transaction fees. A marketplace can add discovery and comparison, although you depend more heavily on its audience and rules.
Compare discovery with delivery
Some platforms are excellent learning-management systems but provide little organic discovery. Others bring visitors but offer limited course structure. Decide whether you already have an audience. If you do, delivery and conversion may matter most. If you do not, combine a clear public expert profile, useful search content, referrals and relevant marketplaces instead of expecting the course host to create demand automatically.
Check payments, tax and refunds
Confirm supported countries, currencies, payment methods, instalments, sales tax or VAT responsibilities, payout timing, chargebacks and refund controls. Establish whether the platform is merchant of record or whether your business remains responsible for collecting and remitting tax. The answer can materially change administrative work and the final economics.
Make the sales page specific
Show the intended audience, learning goals, curriculum, delivery format, dates where relevant, total price, access period, support and cancellation terms. Introduce the coach with accurate qualifications and scope. Avoid guaranteed income, healing or transformation claims. A buyer should understand the complete commitment before payment.
Plan the experience after checkout
Test purchase confirmation, account access, welcome communication, calendar invitations and support. Decide how clients ask questions and what happens when they cannot access content. Keep the sales page, confirmation email and course area consistent. The strongest marketing cannot repair a confusing handoff after someone has paid.
Practical comparison
Where can a coach sell a course?
There is no universally best platform. Compare discovery, ownership and operating effort before choosing.

| Udemy | Large course marketplace and simple hosting | Marketplace plus your own instructor promotion | Revenue share varies depending on how the learner arrives |
| Teachable | Owned course storefront, checkout and learner tools | Primarily your responsibility | Plan costs, transaction terms and audience building |
| Kajabi or Thinkific | Broader branded course-business tooling | Primarily your responsibility | Feature overlap, monthly cost and setup complexity |
